George Harrison
How many girls and boys picked up a guitar because of George Harrison? And how many young adults picked up on the spiritual message in his music and used it as a compass for their own spiritual search? Or how many grown adults witnessed the dignity and peace with which George accepted his own mortality and found in it one last example worth following? In between the lessons, George Harrison released some very good music, justifying the faith that so many had put into The Beatles. He was never on the cutting edge, instead staying true to his own musical course (which, fashion eternally chasing its own tail, caught up with him again on Cloud Nine). Some of the '80s records are best forgotten, but many of his songs will be remembered for generations. In fact, the "quiet" Beatle's music may speak to the future more than the music of John or Paul (if we get it right, that is).
