Kingfish
An assemblage of Bay Area musicians that managed to net Grateful Dead's Bob Weir for two albums before disbanding. Dave Torbert had been in another Dead offshot, New Riders of the Purple Sage, when he and Matthew Kelly recruited their old Horses drummer Chris Herold to form Kingfish. Herold brought along guitarist Robby Hoddinott, and Weir (an old school chum of Kelly's) brought along the cachet for a recording contract. Their first album featured original material from Weir, Torbert and Kelly that invited comparison to NRPS, the Flying Burrito Brothers and (on Weir's cuts) the Grateful Dead. In 1999, Kelly recorded a new album as Kingfish.
