Lene Lovich
An early new wave heroine whose strange fashion sense and little girl voice align her with Nina Hagen, Kate Bush, Cyndi Lauper, Toni Basil, etc. Lene Lovich and guitarist/husband Les Chappell released the startling Stateless at the end of the '70s, but the follow-ups found a dwindling audience for Lene's warbled witchery. Kind of hard to get over the fact that she looks like a cross between Betty Boop and a fascist fashionista, but like Adam & The Ants and Devo the music underneath the makeup was smarter than it looked.
