The Replacements
The best thing to come out of Minnesota since Husker Du, The Replacements was one of those mythical bands that was born to die young. They weren't punk rock but punks who played rock, led by a sensitive, fiery songwriter named Paul Westerberg. These were kids who had a Sex Pistols poster on their walls growing up, had that kind of "it" charisma that record companies salivate over, and didn't give a crap about It. They went major-label with Tim but never sold out. Of the surviving trio, Westerberg is the most active, releasing occasional solo albums to mostly mixed reviews.
