Was (Not Was)
A motley crew of Motor City musicians centered around the whimsical, mythical Don and David Was. It's not prog rock but, as the band calls it, "mutant disco." If that doesn't help you, think of Art of Noise, Godley & Creme and Sparks. The band's R&B sympathies are honest, their songs often a careful balancing act between the musicians (who play it straight) and whatever strange manifesto David Was is pushing at the moment. It's that arty, "are they kidding?" factor that makes them attractive and repellent. I've also posted a PDF of a Was (Not Was) discography, which may (or may not) be near completion (last rev. 11/06).
